L4 FOR HOSPITALITY BUSINESS IN ‘HUIS ROODENBURGH’
Commissioned by “BRANDERHORST & CANISIUS,” Loerakker LED Line designed the lighting plan for Huis Roodenburch*. Spanning 600 m², this space accommodates a café, restaurant, and shop within a stunning, stately historic building on Wijnstraat in the heart of Dordrecht.
The former wine cellars now house a small neighborhood shop, a patisserie kitchen, and a café. The bel étage, which previously hosted businesses like Holster Printing, now serves as the restaurant.
*The building boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. In this part of Wijnstraat, near Gravenstraat, stood the comital inn where the Counts of Holland stayed during their visits to Dordrecht. In the 16th century, the property was merged with the neighboring building on the right, giving the house its impressive dimensions (12 meters wide and an astonishing 37 meters deep!). The roof of the merged property dates back to 1545.
In 1594, Rodenburch came into the possession of the wine merchant Casper Beck. He used the enormous cellars for wine storage and rented out the upper floors. Until 1757, the Bank of Loan was located there. The house, in its current appearance, dates back to 1766. At that time, the old structure was converted into an elegant patrician house in the Rococo (Louis XV) style.
In 1920, the Labor Council purchased the property. The rear house was demolished and replaced by an office hall in contemporary design, designed by architect Carel Tenentie. After the Labor Council, the property was used for many years as the printing house of the Holster company.
In 2007, the property, in a severely neglected state, was transferred to the Hendrick de Keyser Association, which subsequently renovated it.
