LED INNOVATION AT VU AMSTERDAM
For the renovation of the main entrance of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Koreman Verlichting, commissioned by Mega Elektra, designed, produced, and installed a custom LED solution. The existing fixtures integrated into the building’s ceiling had to be retained in the new design. The old PL lighting was highly maintenance-intensive and needed to be replaced with an LED solution.
To achieve this, we developed a circuit board that provides the same amount of light as an 18W PL lamp. The board, equipped with 22 medium-power SMD LEDs, delivers approximately 1100 lumens at 10W with a color temperature of 3000K. Since both the design and installation were managed in-house by Koreman Verlichting, we can guarantee a long lifespan. With a power factor of 0.95, the total energy savings exceed 50%, while the light levels on the floor have increased.
The above project was completed in 2013. Since then, it has been expanded twice. Remarkably, none of the LED fixtures installed in 2013 have failed, and the light levels have barely diminished over time.
